AUSTRALIAN pharmacists' roles in delivering a diverse range of important health services in challenging times, has been lauded by Pharmacy Board of Australia Chair, Brett Simmonds.
In a statement released yesterday, Simmonds acknowledged "the significant efforts of all pharmacists across the country in providing essential healthcare services in various settings".
He noted that pharmacists had contributed to the provision of universal access to sexual and reproductive care, preventing and treating substance abuse, and fighting communicable diseases.
"Australian pharmacists have supported healthcare systems and communities during the continuing COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters such as floods," he said.
"In diverse roles, pharmacists have contributed to ensuring medications are used safely and appropriately during clinical trials and research experiments and have been involved in managing drug shortages, developing treatment protocols, the exploration of new drugs and antimicrobial stewardship.
"In the community they have provided medication management advice to patients, carers and healthcare practitioners."
The Board's statement comes in the lead-up to World Pharmacists Day this Sun 25 Sep, which is this year is highlighting the role of pharmacists in meeting the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) -- Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages.
"On behalf of the Board, which regulates Australia's 35,368 pharmacists I would like to thank all pharmacists for the difference they make to the current and future health of people in Australian communities," he said.
