FAIR go for Pensioners NSW has
said the Government’s market
testing of the privatisation of the
Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme,
Medicare and Department of
Veterans’ Affairs system (PD 08
Aug) could cost thousands of jobs.
Spokesperson Fred Krausert said
the plan should send a warning to
the community that the Abbott
Government was “determined to
bring in a US-style private medical
scheme and get rid of the public
funded universal health scheme
that serves the community so well.”
Krausert said the community
needed to defend universal
healthcare and reject the plan to
privatise essential services.
Minister for Health Peter Dutton
has previously said that the private
sector might be able to provide a
better service at a lower cost and
that, if so, patients, doctors and
the Government would reap the
“benefits and savings”; responses
to the proposal are due by 22 Aug.The above article was sent to subscribers in Pharmacy Daily's issue from 13 Aug 14 To see the full newsletter, see the embedded issue below or CLICK HERE to download Pharmacy Daily from 13 Aug 14
