THE Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) is calling upon interested stakeholders to give feedback on its proposed revised Code of Ethics for pharmacists.
PSA has commenced the process of review by creating a revised draft of the Code "to ensure the Code is consistent with the ethical requirements of contemporary pharmacist practice, and reflects the expectations of Australian healthcare consumers."
Input is sought from interested individuals and organisations, including members of the pharmacy profession as well as consumers, other health professional groups and practitioners, educators, researchers and government bodies, PSA says.
The Code of Ethics for pharmacists applies to every pharmacist irrespective of the role, scope, level or location of practice the Society emphasised, including interns and pharmacy students in supervised practice or clinical placements.
Significant changes to note in the proposed new Code is the "alignment of the Code's Principles to three ethical values pertinent to professionalism, namely Care, Integrity and Capability, with the revised Code seeking to articulate the behaviours that encompass these values in pharmacy practice".
The review also refocuses on patient-centred collaborative care and is designed to ensure that public trust in the profession continues to be enhanced.
Acknowledging Federal Department of Health funding for the project, the PSA said the revised Code would be open until 11 Nov, with draft Code accessible online at psa.org.au and feedback via an online survey.
