Registration renewals loom

THE Pharmacy Board of Australia
says two-thirds of pharmacists have
still not applied for renewal of their
registration, with the upcoming
deadline of 30 Nov coming near.
The details were confirmed in a
Board communique on Fri, with the
organisation saying that the best
way to minimise delays is to renew
online - and ensure that all contact
details including email addresses
are up to date with the Board.
Students who are graduating
soon should also lodge provisional
registration application forms to
enable commencment of
internships on time, the Board said.
Other details in the communique
include changes to the eligibility
criteria for written examinations for
intern pharmacists.
Provisionally registered
pharmacists will now be admitted
to the written examination after
completing at least 30% of approved
supervised practice hours, with the
Board saying the change “aligns the
criteria with that set by some
previous state and territory
pharmacy boards”.
The communique also confirms
new labelling guidance in relation
to Dose Administration Aids, saying
that best practice is to include both
active ingredient and brand name,
but when circumstances
necessitate, such as space limitations,
the active ingredient/ Australian
approved name should be used.
The Board has said it will amend
its Guidelines on specialised supply
arrangements to provide clarity on
this issue.
The most recent Pharmacy Board
meeting also directed the Australian
Pharmacy Council to conduct a
review against international
standards of current Australian
accreditation requirements for
pharmacy education programs.
