Sanofi kids diabetes pilot

SANOFI Diabetes has announced
the launch of a pilot support
program for children with diabetes
in Queensland.
Titled the CoSTARS Junior
program it aims to help set young
patients on the right path from
their first diagnosis, providing
tailored educational and emotional
support strategies for children,
parents and school staff.
A patient’s paediatric
endocronologist will appoint a
credentialled diabetes educator
to monitor the child’s progress,
working to develop tailored care
plans for school-aged children
with type 1 and type 2 diabetes,
providing knowledge around
management of the condition
including correct insulin injection
techniques.
It’s applicable to children under
18 with diabetes who have been
prescribed Lantus and/or Apidra.
The program has launched
in Brisbane during this week’s
International Society for Paediatric
and Adolescent Diabetes congress,
along with a new insulin delivery
device for young children with
diabetes called JuniorSTAR.
JuniorSTAR is a half-unit reusable
insulin pen which offers greater
dosing flexibility to suit the needs
of young people, with improved
accuracy and ease of use.
