Concerns over the shortages have emerged as plans to provide preventative antibiotics to be distributed to schools have been floated as a potential response to surging scarlet fever and streptococcus A (strep A) infections in school children since the beginning of Sep (PD 07 Dec).
Association of Independent Multiple Pharmacies CEO, Leyla Hannbeck, said pharmacists have been dealing with frustrated and angry customers who had been misled by Health Secretary, Steve Barclay, and forced to visit several stores to try to access antibiotics.
