SYDNEY-BASED community pharmacist, Paul Sinclair, will start his four-year term as President of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) at next year's World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science in Brisbane.
Sinclair, who has previously served as FIP Community Pharmacy Section President, Pharmacy Guild of Australia National Vice President, Australia Association of Consultant Pharmacy Chair, and on the Pharmacy Council of NSW, will be the first Australian to hold the office in the organisation's 110-year history.
Sinclair will start his term as "President-elect" on 23 Sep, before replacing incumbent President, Dominique Jordan, next year (PD breaking news).
"I am both excited and humbled to be elected president of FIP and to be the first Australian president reinforces the global reach and importance of our federation," Sinclair said.
"I look forward to continuing the strong tradition of service to our profession that has defined previous FIP presidents."
Acknowledging the challenges of COVID-19 in his election statement, Sinclair said that he had taken an active leadership role in adapting and developing FIP's business and practice models to help the federation both survive and prosper during the pandemic.
"I see the challenge ahead as building on our successes over the past two years to make FIP an even stronger and a more member-facing organisation," he said.
Congratulating Sinclair on his appointment, Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) National President, Dr Fei Sim (pictured with Sinclair), said he would have the organisation's "100% support" during his four years in office.
Meanwhile, Australian Pharmacy Council CEO, Bronwyn Clark, has been appointed as the new FIP Consortium Chair.
