Telehealth launch

HEALTHminister Nicola Roxon and PM Julia Gillard this morning previewed Telehealth consultation services, which will be funded by Medicare for the first time from this Friday 01 July. A joint video conference in Darwin and Adelaide showcased the technology, which allows video conferencing with specialists in capital cities from rural GP clinics, avoiing the time and expense of travelling for consultations. Participating health practitioners are being offered increased Medicare rebates for Telehealth, bulk billing incentives as well as payments to cover start up costs of installing the technology.
