Vaccine reassurance

THE European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use has released the findings of its review of unexpected DNA fragments from viral agents in some live attenuated rotavirus vaccines. According to the EMA the DNA came from the porcine circovirus, and most likely entered the vaccines through porcine trypsin, a reagent used in the vaccine production process. The EMA also reassured the EU that the presence of the DNA did not raise public health concerns.
