THIS week's contributor is Emma Conway, 2021 Pharmacist of the Year Finalist, TerryWhite Chemmart Goondiwindi, QLD - Caring for our patients is a privilege: Each and every day, I go to work and get the opportunity to make a difference in a person's life. This is an honour that I do not take for granted.
Throughout my time in pharmacy, one of the most important lessons I have learnt is that caring for patients is a privilege and that each act of kindness has a significant impact on a person's health journey.
Being an accessible health professional, we are in a unique position. We can guide our patients, advocate for their care and shape the way that our community receives its healthcare.
It sounds an insurmountable task when we grandstand the notion that we change people's lives, but pharmacists do. I think the emphasis needs to be that comprehensive and cohesive patient care doesn't need to be revolutionary, just consistent.
Being the consistent source of reliable health information. Being the consistent experts in medication and care. Being the consistent source of vaccinations and treatment of common ailments. Being consistent in our availability.
The value of consistently caring about our patients is the pharmacist's secret weapon.
