Wholesalers keen for review
July 20, 2016
THE National Pharmaceutical
Services Association has used the
reappointment of Sussan Ley as
Minister for Health (PD yesterday)
to ignite speculation around the
upcoming Discussion Paper on the
Review of Pharmacy Remuneration
and Regulation.
The long-delayed paper, which
was held back due to the caretaker
conventions during the recent
federal election, is expected to be
forthcoming shortly, with the NPSA
saying it looks forward to providing
its input - particularly in relation to
the Community Service Obligation.
“We believe there needs to be a
considered review of the economics
and viability of pharmaceutical
wholesaling and the CSO,” said
NPSA chairman Mark Hooper.
“In spite of substantial investment
to improve efficiency, full-line
wholesalers continue to face
increasing costs, while the
wholesale margin delivers declining
revenue,” he said.
