Pharmacy Guild of Australia National President Kos Sclavos (right) yesterday joined with pharmacy staff at Terry White Chemists in the Brisbane suburb of Coorparoo as part of the ongoing campaign to address the impact of PBS changes on pharmacies. The Guild is urging pharmacists and pharmacy staff to get patients to sign a national petition urging the government and the opposition to commit to lifting community pharmacy remuneration following the surprise changes to the PBS disclosure regime in the economic statement earlier this month. The photographed pharmacy is in Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s electorate of Griffith, and is currently open 7am-11pm 365 days per year – but the proposed cuts “will put that level of service at risk,” according to Sclavos. The Guild is calling for a $150 million injection to compensate for the cuts announced by the govt. Yesterday Guild Executive Director David Quilty told the ABC that Guild analysis has indicated that of the 410 towns in Australia where there is currently only one pharmacy, about 150 may be unviable next financial year once the cuts kick in. |
