THE Therapeutic Goods Administration has completed a wide-ranging review of sunscreens sold in Australia, finding "no compliance deficiencies that concern us in relation to quality, safety and efficacy in every-day use".
The desktop review of 94 listed products followed laboratory testing of 31 sunscreens, including lotions, creams and aerosol sprays.
All products tested contained the levels of active ingredients specified on their labels, and no sensitivity issues were identified - but like all cosmetics, allergic reactions are a possibility.
In particular SPF testing supported claims on aerosol sunscreens, but confirmed all sunscreens are only effective if applied correctly.
