NEW European requirements will see every UK pharmacy required to scan barcodes on medicines to verify they are genuine, under the new Falsified Medicines Directive.
The regulations become effective from 09 Feb 2019 - before Britain formally exits the European Union.
Along with the scanning, the directive mandates a unique identifier and tamper-evident features which must be added to all packaging for prescription medicines.
