THE Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) has signed a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Victoria Police, which will allow the respective agencies to exchange information.
Under the pact, AHPRA may disclose information to the police where there are "allegations or evidence of an indictable or summary offence" by a registered health practitioner including murder, a threat to cause physical or mental harm, assault, sexual offending, production of pornography or possession or theft of illegal or unauthorised drugs or poisons.
Victoria Police may also provide information to AHPRA in relation to allegations about the behaviour of health practitioners.
AHPRA ceo Martin Fletcher said the MoU simply clarified existing information interchanges, with talks under way with other police forces across the country to create consistent agreements and procedures - to view the Victoria Police MoU see ahpra.gov.au.
