THE Australian Government has just announced a $30 million investment to help eliminate malaria in the Pacific and Southeast Asia.
In 2022, there were over seven million reported cases of malaria, with rising infection rates in some countries.
The new package will support governments and communities to develop better testing tools, improve treatments and strengthen mosquito control.
In addition, James Cook University will receive $5 million in funding to support Pacific countries to monitor and control mosquito-borne diseases like malaria, dengue and zika virus.
