THE European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Orphan Medicinal Products has adopted a total of 16 recommendations for orphan designation. Amongst the new adoptions is the first orphan designation opinion for carbetocin to treat Prader-Willi syndrome, a rare genetic condition. The Committee also adopted a first-time orphan designation for sialic acid in the treatment of hereditary inclusion body myopathy, and oleylphosphocholine for the treatment of leishmaniasis.
