NASA has signed a patent license
agreement with a US company,
Meridian Health Systems, which
allows the latter to use NASA
technology which could potentially
treat hardened heart arteries.
The technology focuses around
an electromagnetic spectrum
which involves the use of
millimeter wave radiation
(otherwise known as W band), and
could potentially be miniaturised
into a directional antenna attached
to a catheter.
According to the US company, in
the directional antenna format
millimeter wave transmissions
could penetrate the artery wall
and restore elasticity to the artery
without damaging healthy tissue
and cells.
Moving forward Meridian will
conduct clinical trials with a
prototype built by NASA scientists
and engineers, working toward
Food and Drug Administration
approval of its use.The above article was sent to subscribers in Pharmacy Daily's issue from 05 Dec 11 To see the full newsletter, see the embedded issue below or CLICK HERE to download Pharmacy Daily from 05 Dec 11
