BRITAIN'S High Court has given permission for a judicial review of the UK government's wide-ranging cuts to pharmacy funding.
The case will be brought by the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee, which announced last month it was planning legal action on the basis that the Secretary of State had "failed to carry out a lawful consultation" on the proposals, which have been strongly opposed by pharmacy stakeholders (PD 16 Mar 2016, PD 07 Sep 2016).
The hearing is planned for the second week of Feb.
Another legal battle over the cuts is also under way, with Ian Strachan, chair of the UK National Pharmacy Association also confirming the "formal launch of High Court proceedings" over claims the 12% funding reductions will disproportionately affect the elderly, disabled and minorities.
